Furmaniak, Indians take out Bulls

J.J. Furmaniak homered and scored three runs as Indianapolis beat Durham, 7-4, on Thursday night at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
With the first-place Indians (15-12) trailing, 2-0, Furmaniak led off the top of the third inning with a single and scored on a sacrifice fly by Rich Thompson. He hit a one-out single in the sixth and scored on a three-run double by Thompson that put Indianapolis on top, 6-2.

Furmaniak, who entered the game batting .213, capped the scoring with a solo homer in the eighth. Carlos Maldonado finished 3-for-4 with a double and a run.

Brandon Duckworth (4-2) picked up the win, giving up four runs on five hits in 6 1/3 innings. He walked four and struck out four. Matt Whiteside pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his sixth save and lower his ERA to 1.35.

Edwin Jackson Jr. (1-2) took the loss, surrendering four runs -- three earned -- while walking four and fanning one in 5 1/3 innings.

It's Alive

JJ went 3-4 last night with his first home run of the season. Hitting steak stands at 5 game and is hitting .545 in May. Indy at Durham 6pm Friday Night.
